North Beach, Maryland’s Jordana Nye is a bedroom folk artist with three songs on Bandcamp, all of which are whimsical and unexpected lo-fi gems. Her latest track, “Intrusive Thoughts,” unfolds as Nye jots down musings about her cat, driving aimlessly, and stargazing. “Am I crazy?” she asks. “Or am I thinking way too much?” Her delivery is breathy, waiting for an answer from above. At times, she embroiders the song with raspy vocal cracks that suggest the intimacy of a side-by-side chat. At the end of the track, Jordana ventures on a guitar solo, which starts off just as random and ambling as her stream-of-consciousness but finds a tidier resolution. “Intrusive Thoughts” is a brief folk antidote for restless minds and a compelling introduction to Jordana Nye’s uncomplicated, cozy songwriting.
